AI Image Detector analyzes a photo or illustration and returns a 0–100% confidence score indicating how likely the image was generated by AI rather than captured by a camera. Upload any image and the tool delivers a five-level verdict, a color spectrum bar, and a downloadable PNG report bearing the result as a stamped overlay. It's designed for distinguishing authentic photographs from outputs of AI image generators such as Midjourney, DALL-E, or Stable Diffusion.
What the five verdict levels mean
The result maps directly to a confidence threshold — understanding each range helps you interpret the output correctly:
- Authentic (0–14%): Almost certainly a real photograph
- Likely Real (15–39%): More real characteristics, but with some uncertain factors
- Uncertain (40–59%): The model cannot make a reliable determination
- Likely AI (60–84%): Clear AI generation characteristics present
- AI Generated (85–100%): Almost certainly produced by an AI model
The "Uncertain" verdict appears frequently for images that have been heavily post-processed, or whose visual style simultaneously exhibits both real and generated characteristics.
Why a real photo might score high for AI
The detection model works by statistical features. Certain visual properties of authentic photos overlap with AI image patterns:
- Heavily sharpened or HDR-processed photos — tonal and texture characteristics resemble diffusion model output
- Highly symmetrical artificial scenes, or commercial photography with repeating geometric patterns
- Phone photos processed with aggressive digital filters
- JPEG images re-saved multiple times with lossy compression artifacts
If you know an image is genuinely photographed but it scored unexpectedly high, one of the above is almost always the reason.
AI images that may escape detection
The training data for current detection models has an update lag:
- The latest generation of image generators — especially high-resolution models released after 2024 — have higher misclassification rates on some detectors
- AI images that have been extensively retouched with real skin texture, film grain, and motion blur added can mask AI-characteristic patterns
- Very-low-resolution screenshots or double-compressed images lose enough information to make detection features incomplete
What the downloaded report contains
Click "Download Report" to generate a PNG showing the analyzed image, the confidence percentage and verdict label as a rotated stamp overlay (−12°), a green-to-red gradient spectrum bar, and the detection date. This format lets you embed the result in documents or emails directly without screenshotting.
