EVA Title Card Generator

Overview

The EVA title card generator renders custom text as a BMP image styled after the iconic title cards from the Neon Genesis Evangelion anime. It is built on itorr/eva-title and reproduces the noise, blur, and convolution effects that give the original title sequence its distinctive distressed look. Useful for video subtitle cards, fan art, and meme material.

Color Schemes and Aspect Ratios

Five color combinations are available: Black/White (the default classic look), White/Black (inverted), Black/Red (warning style), Red/White (emergency style), and Black/Yellow (caution style). Black/Red and Red/White are the two most recognizable combinations from the anime.

Aspect ratios: 4:3 (classic TV), 16:9 (modern widescreen), 3:3 (square for social media), 5:4, and 3:2.

Visual Effects

Four effects can be combined freely:

  • Blur — softens edges to simulate film grain
  • Noise — adds a particle overlay for a retro distressed look
  • Convolution — applies a filter that mimics signal interference
  • Type 95 — a special rendering mode that alters stroke style

Noise + Blur together is the most faithful recreation of the original anime title cards. Convolution adds a different kind of noise that reads more like television interference.

Character Matching and Font Limitations

The tool uses the EVA Matisse Classic font, which covers Japanese kana, common kanji, and some traditional Chinese characters. It does not cover all simplified Chinese characters. When you type text the tool automatically checks whether every character is in the font set and flags any mismatches.

Two options when a character does not match:

  • Click "Try replacing unmatched characters" — the tool auto-converts simplified Chinese to traditional Chinese, which resolves most cases
  • Manually substitute a similar character or rephrase in Japanese or traditional Chinese

Output Format

Output is BMP format. BMP preserves the full rendered quality without compression artifacts. If you need PNG or JPEG, convert with a screenshot or any image editor after downloading.
