The currency exchange tool shows real-time exchange rates sourced from the European Central Bank and lets you convert amounts in both directions between any two currencies. Historical trend charts cover 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or 1 year. Rate data is cached locally for 1 hour per base currency to reduce repeated fetches — switching the base currency pulls fresh data; refreshing within the hour uses the cached version.
Data Source and Update Frequency
Rates come from the European Central Bank (ECB), updated once per working day, typically around 16:00 Central European Time. These are reference mid-rates. The difference between ECB mid-rates and what banks or exchange services actually offer is usually 0.5–2%, plus any service fee or spread. For comparison purposes the ECB rate is reliable; for actual exchange transactions, confirm the rate at your bank or exchange counter.
Reading the Historical Chart
The line chart under the currency pair shows the daily rate for the selected period. Hovering over the chart shows the exact rate for that date, expressed as "1 base currency = N target currency" with 4 decimal places.

Searching Currencies and Reverse Conversion
The currency selector supports searching by currency code (e.g., EUR, GBP) or full name. Entering an amount on the left calculates the right side automatically. You can also type directly on the right side to reverse-calculate how much source currency you need — useful for "I have X euros, how many yen can I get?"
